Eliminating a Morning Headache
A morning headache can certainly put a damper on your day. There is so much to be done that it is hard when you can’t function at your normal capacity. Eliminating a morning headache though often starts with taking proper care of your body. Such symptoms indicate that something else isn’t right.
If you aren’t getting enough sleep at night, a morning headache could be on the horizon. It can be hard to get a good night of rest if you aren’t ready for it. Try to go to bed at the same time every night and then get up at the same time every morning. Forget the chores late into the night – your rest is more important than waking up to a sit of dirty dishes or a pile of laundry that needs to be put away.
What you sleep on can influence how you feel when you wake up too. A mattress that is firm and a solid pillow is what you need. Everyone has their own preferences in these areas so experiment and find what works well for you. If you have a partner, you may want to consider a mattress where each of you can adjust your side of the bed differently.
Your eating habits can affect whether you have a morning headache or not. If you don’t eat well your body can be lacking essential vitamins and nutrients that it needs. Not eating dinner can result in you waking up with a headache. If the onset of it is later in the morning then it could be due to skipping breakfast or making poor food choices.
Of course one of the oldest reasons in the book for a morning headache has to do with consuming too much alcohol the night before. Known as the hangover, there can be other symptoms too. However, a throbbing headache is one that is very dominant. It can last for several hours before it starts to fade away.
To avoid a hangover, pay close attention to how much alcohol you consume. This is especially important when it comes to mixing types of alcohol. Drink plenty of water along with the alcohol and consuming some food before bed will help to offset such a morning headache.
The build up of stress and tension can really take a toll on both the body and the mind. This is one of the most common reasons for a morning headache to develop. Try to identify triggers of such stress so you can reduce or eliminate them. It may take some drastic changes in your work environment and personal life to make that happen.
Getting adequate exercise is good for your physical health. However, it is also very helpful for your mental wellbeing. Clearing your mind through forms of exercise such as yoga can help to reduce the chances of a morning headache occurring.
If you have made reasonable efforts in all of these areas but continue to suffer from headaches in the morning, it is time to discuss the situation with your doctor. They can do an assessment and an examination to find out if there is an underlying mediation condition causing them. From there, a form of treatment can be looked at and followed up on.
Some of the common causes that fall into this category include brain tumors, high blood pressure, sinus infections, and hypertension. Depending on the specific circumstances you may be able to resolve the problem once and for all. With other situations the use of ongoing mediation may be necessary to keep the morning headaches at bay.
